Tucked under the Library menu, Library Health isn't something you'll stumble on by accident — it's there for when you want to close the gaps in an otherwise well-organized library. Four filters, each one instantly showing the grid filtered to just those photos:

  • Photos Without Albums — never filed anywhere
  • Photos Without GPS — no coordinates at all
  • Photos Without Place Data — no country or city
  • Photos Without Events — not part of a trip or occasion

The trickiest gap is GPS. Plenty of photos get a place name typed in by hand — "Sydney, Australia" — without ever having real coordinates on file. Others have accurate GPS but no readable place name attached. Once you've filtered down to the photos in question, two menu commands close the gap from either side:

  • Add GPS from Location — reads the place name already on the photo and adds GPS coordinates at that location's center
  • Fix Location from GPS — reads existing GPS coordinates and derives the place name from them

Both run as a batch across your whole selection, so a folder of a hundred untagged vacation photos takes one command, not a hundred taps.

A Library Health filter just narrows the grid to the photos with the gap — it doesn't select them. Select the photos you want to fix first — click one, then shift-click to select the rest of the region — and the two commands appear in the Library menu.

All four Library Health filters are available on both Mac and iPad — you can see exactly which photos are missing albums, GPS, place data, or events from either device. The two fix commands, Add GPS from Location and Fix Location from GPS, are Mac-only: iPad is read-only here, so you can spot the gap on the couch and close it later at your Mac.
